Enneagram type 2 the mentor or helper
If you score highly for a type 2 enneagram personality, then it is likely that your motivation will come from your feelings and emotions and you will be concerned with love, empathy and are highly aware of other peoples needs. You like to be appreciated for all the things you do for others and like to be reassured that you are loved. Deep down there is usually some aspects low self-esteem and emotional tiredness from generally putting other peoples needs before your own. Some aspects of self-consciousness makes it difficult to hear criticism from others therefore they may try to please others and avoid situations that may escalate into conflict. Because so much time and effort goes into helping and understanding the feelings of others – they need to know that they are ‘loved’ in return, if this is not obvious to them, they may ‘test’ the other person as they search for evidence that they are good enough.
Enneagram Type 2 wing types:
Enneagram type 2 with a 1 wing is called the Idealist / Social Worker / Servant – This wing type uses morale codes and righteousness to leverage their need to help others, they are truly concerned, engaged, sympathetic and encouraging to others.
Enneagram type 2 with a 3 wing is called the Hostess / Socialiser – This wing type allows to two to adopt some of the characteristics from the type three which allows them to take more control of situations and ownership of outcomes, they are typically engaging, gracious, inviting, sociable and eager.
Type two enneagram personality – Attitudes towards anxiety and depression:
As you can see from the type 2 description above – it is quite hard work being an enneagram type 2! They are lovely people who can so easily fall into cycles of worry, anxiety and depression. The strategy they use to feel good about themselves through helping others, is noble yet flawed. As they learn to accept and love themselves more – and begin to put their own needs first, it becomes far easier to help others and this will then be done from a place of humility and altruism rather than control (if they like me, I can like myself.)
