You do not see the world as it is. You see your brain’s best guess. How your clumsy senses keep anxiety and OCD alive, and how iStory ERP, plus a new inner perspective, retrains what you do with those feelings.

Your Senses Are Clumsy. That Is Good News.

Anxiety and OCD treat sensations as evidence. A racing heart means danger. A look means rejection. A thought means you might do the unthinkable. The body feels so convincing that the mind forgets to ask: is this signal true, or only vivid?

If you want out of those loops, you need a new relationship with your senses. Not because they are useless. Because they were never a courtroom. They are a guidance system: clumsy, late, biased, and easily tricked. Recovery is learning to live with that, then retraining what the unconscious does with the guess.

This is the same childlike protection I keep pointing to. The horse is trying to keep you safe. It just uses last decade’s map. You are not broken. You are running old software through instruments that were never designed to tell the whole truth.

You do not look out of your eyes

Nothing comes out of the eyes. Light comes in. Two streams travel to the back of the brain. The picture is stitched together. Gaps are filled in. Colour is added. Objects do not “have” colour. The nervous system paints it on.

What you call seeing is a reconstruction in the dark of the skull. It feels like looking out. You are looking at a model. Two people stand in the same kitchen. One brain centres the bin and the splash on the tiles. Another centres the window and the biscuits. Same room. Different virtual reality. The settler and the nomad will not render the same afternoon either. One hunts for rules and fit. The other hunts for difference. Conditioning decides what gets to be the centre of the frame.

Even the face in the mirror is representation plus story. Other people are not seeing your picture. They are seeing theirs. All that matters is there is no spinach in the teeth. The rest is available for a kinder placebo.

This is also how you can stare at your keys and not see them. You are looking at what the mind is willing to put in the image. The eight year old can hide a whole object if it has a sabotage agenda. Hypnosis works on the same machinery. The person is not removed from the room. They are edited out of the internal picture.

Once you see that, “hallucination” gets less theatrical. All vision is interpretation. Dreams are that interpretation with the outer world turned down. A novelist can take a dark image and think: material. A person with Pure OCD can take a similar image and cancel the evening. Same raw data. Different use. Intrusive harm thoughts are common. Concern that you might do the thing is usually evidence you are not the person who would. The trick is to keep you thinking. Thinking is how the parasite feeds.

Hearing is not a tape recorder

Sound is vibration, then a pattern match: dog, kettle, “what are you doing that for?” Loud noise hits the amygdala fast. So do stored phrases. A parent’s tone, a teacher’s accent. The body can fire before the rider has finished the sentence.

Sedation can scramble the match. Incoming sound arrives slightly wrong. The brain finds no file, so it jumps to fear or grabs the nearest neighbour. After surgery I heard a Scottish whisper in the kitchen. It was the dishwasher. I smiled. Someone already running a story about voices might have built a new prison out of the same machine.

The sense is not punishing you. It is guessing under poor conditions.

The body will still do what bodies do

If adrenaline is in the blood, fear feeling follows. That is biology, not prophecy. A brain trained to see danger where there is none will keep pressing the button at the wrong time. Fighting the sensation is a second job. The useful job is this: the chemicals fired; I will work on the programme.

I took a friend with a fear of heights onto a high glass escalator. His fear exploded. Mine did too. He thought people who are “fine with heights” do not get the rush. They do. They have changed their relationship to it. Some call it excitement. We went back up and down. His inner dream updated in minutes. The mind can be quiet while the body is loud.

That is rider and horse. There is the world out there and the world in here. Both are real in their own way. You will never fully control the first. You can influence the second. It is easier to change how you see than to force the planet to match your nerves.

Knowing is not installing

The conscious mind can understand all of this in an afternoon. The unconscious does not update because you agreed with a video. You have to show it, again and again, until the new file takes over.

That is what the process is for. iStory ERP is not only touching the feared object. It is aiming exposure at the life you intend and desire, while you refuse the old responses: checking, avoiding, reviewing, googling, arguing with the thought. You move trigger images from the amygdala’s unsafe drawer toward “I can be with this.” You change the inner sentence when the horse says idiot. You change the outer sentence when someone asks where to go tonight. A real preference, even if the stomach is tight.

False at first. Then the chemical weather shifts. Cells do not read philosophy. They read repetition. Stop running the catastrophe story and the body slowly stops preparing for catastrophe. More room appears for the peptides that belong to a life that is being lived.

Courage here is not the absence of fear. It is feeling the fear and still acting toward what you intend and desire. Doubt, fear and pessimism are the old fuels. Trust, courage and optimism are the new briefing, practised, not waited for.

The question that actually helps

Not “How do I make the anxiety go away so I can stay who I am?”
Ask this instead: “What would I need to become for anxiety and OCD to struggle to survive here?”

That person treats a sensation as information, not a verdict. They can feel out of control and still take the next step. They know the picture in the skull is a draft. They retrain the draft on purpose, with better life skills as well as exposure.

Your senses will stay clumsy. Let them. You are not the picture. You are the one who can choose which version of the dream is worth living in, and discover who you can be.

These are The Chronicles of Common Sense, forged from facing life directly and learning through real-world experience. They guided me out of anxiety, OCD, bipolar depression and crippling self-consciousness, and helped me become more trusting, energetic, optimistic, self loving and courageous.

This work reaches mind, body and soul. It gives you the tools to step courageously into the unknown. Knowledge only becomes wisdom when we test it through action. Those who act, adjust, and act again (ERP) will always move further than those who stay in thinking and worrying.

What do you desire?

The next action is yours. Take it.
