• Be Impeccable with Your Word: Speak with integrity and kindness; avoid gossip and self-criticism.
  • Don’t Take Anything Personally: Recognise that others’ actions and opinions reflect their reality, not yours.
  • Don’t Make Assumptions: Communicate clearly to avoid misunderstandings and unnecessary suffering.
  • Always Do Your Best: Give your best effort in every situation, knowing it will vary depending on circumstances.

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz is a practical guide to personal freedom, rooted in ancient Toltec wisdom. The book outlines four key principles to live by for a more fulfilling and peaceful life:

My personal experience of – The Four Agreements

Embarking on my journey of recovery from anxiety, OCD, and depression has been a transformative experience, largely due to the principles I adopted along the way. By committing to these principles wholeheartedly for six months, I discovered a profoundly different way of approaching life’s challenges.

Instead of being paralysed by my racing thoughts or overwhelmed by the intense feelings coursing through my body, I learned to analyse each situation through a fresh lens. This new paradigm allowed me to step back and assess my responses, transforming my instinctive reactions into thoughtful decisions. It felt liberating to navigate my daily life with a clear set of values and beliefs guiding my choices.

As I embraced this structured approach, I found that my world became significantly more manageable and easier to navigate. Decisions that once seemed daunting became simpler and more aligned with my true self. I felt a sense of empowerment that had been missing for so long.

I wholeheartedly recommend that others explore these principles, as they have the potential to catalyse positive change. The book I read was instrumental in this process, providing insights that broke down my old thought patterns and helped me cultivate a more balanced perspective on life.

My course delves into how this mindset shift changed my life for the better, allowing me to replace chaos with clarity.

If you’re struggling with similar challenges, I encourage you to consider these practices; they have made all the difference for me, and I believe they can do the same for you.

And one final thought – don’t be fooled by the simplicity of those agreements; life can be far simpler than you ever could have imagined!

PS – Miguel added a fifth agreement, too. Be sceptical but listen anyway! This is genius because (obviously) it is from what we don’t know that we will grow, although that rare knowledge is often obscured by old stories, beliefs, customs, and perspectives. This is why I always say try something, then you’ll know, rather than just believing others or your own brain’s thoughts…

Access this video and over 60 others for $15 a month, along with guided meditations and practical workbooks. These are The Chronicles of Common Sense, forged from facing life directly and learning through real-world experience. They guided me out of anxiety, OCD, bipolar depression and crippling self-consciousness — and helped me become more trusting, energetic, optimistic, self-loving and courageous.

This work reaches mind, body and Soul. It gives you the tools to step courageously into the unknown. Knowledge only becomes wisdom when we test it through action. Nature just knows that those who act, adjust, and act again (ERP) will always move further than those who remain stuck in overthinking and worrying.

Thinking is an Inner Reality Imagination. Action is an Outer Reality Event — and once you act, something will happen. The outcome is never fully in your control, but if the action is aimed at what you truly desire, it is always worthwhile.

What is it you desire?

The next action is yours. Take it.

Much love, John
