Esoteric Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a specific type of OCD characterised by obsessions and compulsions connected to abstract, philosophical, spiritual, or existential themes. Even though these symptoms may not align with the more typical categories, such as fears of contamination or the need for symmetry, they can still be significantly distressing and intrusive for those experiencing them and cause much confusion, procrastination and a lack of meaning in their life.
It is my experience that esoteric OCD is a subset of Pure OCD (not that it matters, as this is only a label). In people who are very intelligent and creative but don’t have an outlet for that creativity, OCD can trap them in cycles of thinking and analysis, leading them to believe they can’t move on until they fully understand the topics it focuses on.
Remember, OCD tries to unconsciously trap you and pull you away from life; therefore, if it can trap you with thoughts about the Universe, God, Quantum XYZs, philosophy, or other unprovable and (often) unknowable concepts, it has the perfect loop to trap you in researching and pondering – where it knows you’ll never find a satisfactory answer the OCD will accept.
Therefore, it is by consciously learning to accept that there is much we will never know (and that is OK) who said that we should know (except the OCD) – we can enjoy learning and we can enjoy living without knowing, which expands our adaptability to handle life.
This is why The Calmness in Mind Process offers you hundreds of models you can use to temporarily consciously train into your unconscious brain (ERP), which breaks those OCD patterns.
